| IUCN Welcomes the European Charter on Hunting and Biodiversity |
Members of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) have welcomed the Council of Europe’s new European Charter on Hunting and Biodiversity during the recent 4th World Conservation Congress held in Barcelona, Spain, from 5th – 14th October.

The CIC held a well-attended workshop on October 9th introducing participants of the World Conservation Congress to the concept of sustainable hunting tourism, identifying hunting as one component of the larger tourism economy and emphasizing the need to develop standards and criteria in support of this sustainable use activity.

The CIC presented the results of the 4-year project “Habitat Fallow Land” at the World Conservation Congress of IUCN in Barcelona. In the form of a so-called “knowledge café” participants could exchange information on the importance of set-aside fields for the diversity of life in agricultural landscapes and discussed about their sustainable integration in crop rotations for the future.

These days, from October 5th through 15th 2008, over 7800 conservationists, politicians and scientists are gathered together in Barcelona, Spain, for the 4th World Conservation Congress (WCC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to discuss about conservation and sustainable development. This is the largest conservation event on global level.
